Lori Haught, Registered Veterinary Technician
Lori is an excellent veterinary technician and has had extensive training in advanced nursing techniques. As a registered veterinary technician (RVT), Lori performs much the same duties as our senior veterinary Nurses as well as additional advanced nursing duties that are restricted by law to RVTs.
Lori joined AMC in 2005 as an extern during her final semester of the two year veterinary technician program at Fairmont State. Fortunately for us and for our patients, Lori joined our staff full time after she completed her degree in May, 2005.
As our Dental Health team leader, Lori helps us define and constantly improve our dental protocols as well as maintain our sophisticated dental equipment. Lori has received advanced training in dental hygiene, dental radiology and dental disease at the world class Animal Dental Training Center in Baltimore, MD.
Lori and her husband Wes share their home with their two dogs, Sam and Buckwheat and their cat, Ashley, who they bottle raised through the AMC Adoption Program (the bottle fed foster babies seem to rarely make it back into the Adoption Program once our nurses take them home -- a job related risk!). Lori is pictured here with an AMC adoptive kitty, "Angel".
Jessica Horowitz, Veterinary Technician (RVT pending WV boards)
Jessica joined our staff in 2007 after completing her veterinary technology degree and gaining additional experience working in another hospital for several months after graduation. She brings with her good technical skills and is quickly becoming a core member of our nursing team.
Jessica "loves caring for animals and teaching pet owners how to best care for their pets." Jessica is committed for the long term to the field of veterinary medicine. Jessica is considering either staying in the field of veterinary technology long term or perhaps eventually returing to school for further education and possibly continuing on to veterinary school.
Jessica graduated from veterinary technician school in 2006 and passed her national board exam in 2007 (Woo Hoo!!), making her eligible for WV licensure as a Registered Veterinary Technician pending her state boards (on local laws, etc.) in spring, 2008.
Chris Brooks, (WVU student) Veterinary Nurse & Kennel Manager
Chris grew up in West Virginia, graduated from Frankfort High School and then served in the U.S. Army for 5 years, from which he was honorably discharged after completing his commitments and receiving promotions up to the level of Sergeant. Chris served overseas including tours Afghanistan, Iraq and also served domestically.
During Chris's tenure as a Military Police Officer at Ft. Stewart, he became increasingly aware of the tragic plight of many pet animals and was motivated to return to school so that, as a veterinarian, he could more directly better animal's lives.
Chris is a majoring in Animal & Nutritional Science at WVU and plans to continue on to veterinary school after completing his undergraduate studies at WVU. (Chris would not be the first AMC team member to follow that path! Go, Holly, DVM -- LSU class of 2009!!)
Chris and his wife, Christian, share their home with their 3 year old golden retriever "Lucie" and a 2 year old flat-coat retriever mix, "Orion". Soon after Chris joined our team in summer, 2007, we were fortunate enough to recruit his wife, Christian to join our Client Services team here at AMC! Chris's dedication to learning and fantastic work ethic helped him rapidly learn the ropes here at AMC and he rapidly earned his place on the team as a veterinary nurse. As our Kennel Manager, Chris also oversees the kennel and the Animal Care Attendant's training and supervision.
Chris is pictured with a lovely AMC adoptive kitten, George.
Jennifer Poe, (student) Veterinary Assistant
Jennifer began as a volunteer at AMC in 2005. Her caring, aptitude for learning and attention to detail helped her quickly become an essential part of the AMC team. Her dedication to excellence, compassion and eagerness to learn made her a wonderful volunteer and allowed her to quickly learn to ropes and earn herself a job offer. She has since been promoted from Animal Care Attendant to Veterinary Assistant, a position which allowed her to both care for our patients and to continue to learn on the job as she develops her nursing skills.
Jennifer's current career goal is to become a veterinary nurse and we are delighted to help her gain experience in the field and to benefit from her many contributions.
Mark Johnson, (WVU student) Veterinary Assistant
Mark attends WVU and is studying Animal Sciences in preparation for a career in veterinary medicine. He has been a long time AMC client and joined our staff in 2007. In 2005, Mark and his girlfriend adopted our rescued dog Bob and provide him with a wonderful home. They also have two other dogs, Jada and Nipper as well as two red-ear slider turtles.
Mark loves the opportunity to be around animals all day here at AMC and to get hands on training and experience in his chosen field of study. Mark is a great fit with our team and quickly became a valued team member and was promoted to veterinary assisting.
Andrea Dean, Animal Care Attendant
Andrea is dedicated to the field of veterinary medicine and is planning a career as a registered veterinary technician (RVT). She has been accepted to the veterinary technology program at Fairmont State to begin in Fall 2008.
We are fortunate that Andrea chose AMC to begin her formal career in veterinary medicine. She recently joined our animal care team and is rapidly progressing in her training in veterinary assisting. Her dedication to pets and her eagerness to learn make her a natural at AMC.
Andrea has one cat, Mittens and one dog, Phoebe.
