Small Mammals & Birds

No Description resized to 300 pixels wideVeterinary medicine for exotic pets is growing as the popularity of these animals increases. With better public education in health, nutritional and environmental management, all species have a greater chance for living longer and healthier lives.

Our veterinarians have advanced training and experience in the care and treatments of small mammals. Dr. Zucker completed elective course work in exotic medicine during veterinary school and he has had substantial experience with routine avian and small mammal medicine, so we carry on Animal Medical Center's tradition of serving small mammal ("pocket pet") patients in addition to cats & dogs.

Animal Medical Center will see small mammals (ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, rats, prairie dogs, hamsters, etc.) for most needs and we also perfom routine surgeries (such as neuters or mass removals) on small mammals.

We are also happy to see birds for most routine medical care and for wing, beak or nail care.

Since we don't have extensive expertise in caring for reptiles, we generally refer snakes, turtles and other reptiles to exotic pet specialists in the Pittsburgh area

Since there are no exotic pet specialist veterinarians in the Morgantown area, we do our best to provide care for exotics within the scope of our veterinarians' expertise. If your exotic pet requires more specialized care or if you simply prefer to deal with an avian or exotic pet specialist, we will gladly refer you to specialist veterinarians in the Pittsburgh area who have advanced expertise in the special needs of your exotic pet.
