Halloween is a treat for people ā but it can be a tricky time for pets! Here are a few important ways to keep your furry friends safe and stress-free this spooky season.

š« Keep candy out of pawsā reach
Chocolate and sugar-free treats can be dangerous to pets.
Chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine, which can cause vomiting, tremors, or even heart problems in dogs and cats.
Sugar-free candies and gum often contain xylitol, a sweetener thatās extremely toxic to dogs even in small amounts.Keep all candy bowls and treat bags safely out of reach, and remind kids not to share their sweets.
š¾ Choose costumes carefully
Some pets enjoy dressing up, but others find it stressful or uncomfortable. Make sure your petās costume allows free movement, normal breathing, and clear vision ā and never leave a dressed-up pet unattended.
š» Create a calm space
The doorbell, strange costumes, and glowing decorations can be overwhelming. If your pet gets anxious, set up a quiet room away from the front door with soft music or a favorite toy.
šā⬠Protect black cats (and all outdoor pets)
Halloween night can be risky for outdoor pets ā especially black cats, who are sometimes the target of pranks or cruelty. Keep cats and other outdoor pets safely indoors for a few days before and after Halloween.
šÆļø Watch decorations and wires
Candles, pumpkins, and string lights can all pose hazards. Curious pets may knock over candles or chew cords, so keep decorations out of reach or use battery-powered options.
šŖ Be mindful with trick-or-treaters
If your pet is likely to dart outside when the door opens, use a leash or baby gate for extra safety. Make sure collars and ID tags are secure ā just in case.
