Full-time is a four-day week with a rotating half-day Saturday—and we’re glad to build a half- or three-quarter-time schedule instead. Tell us what you’re looking for and we’ll work hard to make it happen. Schedules here are consistent and predictable, and as your needs change over time, we’re always open to revisiting them. Best of all, our doctors are usually out within about fifteen minutes of closing—you’ll have your evenings back.

Time to practice good medicine.
Appointments are a real 20 to 30 minutes, and we hold back roughly a quarter of the schedule for same-day urgent cases—so you’re rarely double-booked or squeezed. A 90-minute lunch gives you genuine room to catch up on records, callbacks, and a breath. This is medicine at a humane pace.
You’ll be well supported.

We staff generously—roughly four team members per veterinarian—because good medicine depends on a strong team. Our support staff are plentiful, skilled, long-tenured, and a real pleasure to work alongside. If a DVM isn’t needed to do it, you won’t routinely be asked to do it—your day stays focused on medicine. And management has your back: we’ll work hard to get you whatever drugs, equipment, staffing, and policies work best for you.

Our leadership team averages over 15 years here, and our nurses average more than six. We work hard to take care of our people—and to make sure they keep choosing AMC.

​​Mentorship that doesn’t leave you stranded.
New graduates are genuinely welcome. For your first six months—or longer, until you’re fully ready—you’ll never be the only doctor in the building. Your colleagues are eager to mentor as needed, collaborate any time, and respect your medical judgment. Dr. Steve Zucker has owned the practice since 2004, and you’ll work alongside Dr. Karin Patterson and Dr. Amy Thibodaux—all skilled, and a genuine pleasure to work with. And there’s no on-call or after-hours duty: excellent specialty and ER practices are available for referral, so your off-hours stay yours.

We see a full mix of dog and cat medicine—no exotics, unless you want to see other species—with as much or as little surgery as suits your interests, and trusted specialists nearby for referrals when a case calls for it. And we’re equipped for it: a complete in-house laboratory, Sound digital radiology including dental, full anesthesia monitoring, ultrasound, warm-air patient warming, a comprehensive pharmacy, and paperless medical records. If it’s important to you and it’s good medicine, we’ll do what we can to get it.

Medicine held to the highest standard.
We’ve been AAHA accredited for over 20 years—the only AAHA-accredited hospital in our region, a bar fewer than 15% of practices meet. We don’t push unnecessary procedures or products. Ever. No declaws, no tail docks, no ear crops. Because we’re owner-led, our doctors have the freedom to practice medicine the way it should be practiced—with real judgment, compassion, and care for each patient and family in front of them.
Competitive, negotiable pay and benefits.

We expect to start our next veterinarian between $105,000 and $132,000, depending on skills and experience—and we’re genuinely open to talking, especially for an experienced or proven candidate.

Our proposed package includes three weeks of vacation to start, paid parental leave, and extended time off readily available. We provide malpractice, dental, and vision insurance, a Simple IRA with match, and a relocation bonus, plus dues, VIN, CE, and more. Health insurance is available if you need it. We’ll work with you to design a package that’s just right for you.

We’re currently a 2.25-doctor practice growing to roughly 3.25—enough doctors to share the load, cover for one another, and keep the pace sane, while staying small enough for a family atmosphere, true continuity of care, and lasting relationships with your team and your clients. Being in a university town helps, too: WVU and a strong professional community nearby mean specialists, referral partners, and colleagues are never far away.

A friendly college town (home to WVU) with a modest cost of living, strong public schools, and an easy pace of life. The outdoor access is spectacular—miles of rail-trail right through town, the Cheat River and Cooper’s Rock just minutes away, and world-class whitewater, hiking, climbing, and mountain biking all within easy reach. We’re 90 minutes south of Pittsburgh and 3½ hours west of Washington, DC. Plenty of professional opportunities for a spouse or partner, too—it’s an easy place to put down roots.
